Getting Physically Healthy (finally)

Hello everyone!

I know I haven't posted in a couple weeks. I've been super busy with school and life.

This week I wanted to talk about physical health and exercise. For a long time, I did not feel motivated to be active, exercise, or work out. I knew that it would be good for my body and mental health, but I didn't have the energy to start a habit. I didn't think it would have that much of a difference on my overall health. I worked out off and on in high school and the first year of college but didn't push myself.

Finally, last semester, I started working out twice a week. I made a decision to get physically fit and made time in my schedule. It was hard at first and I often had to force myself to walk up to the gym on campus. Once I started a habit, however, it became a normal part of my routine. I began to notice that my anxiety decreased and I fell asleep faster and slept better. I had more energy and motivation to be productive. Over Christmas break, I decided to bump up my workout routine to three times a week and push myself harder. I learned new exercises and worked harder.

When I started school again, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to continue working out three times a week, but I have been able to fit it into my schedule. I have noticed that I am getting stronger and that I am able to lift more weight. I feel more motivated to eat better and do my homework after I come back from the gym. I feel less anxious and I am able to focus on each task. I also sleep better and I have more energy.

After I graduate, I hope to continue working out. I want to take care of my body and honor God with it. 1st Corinthians 6:19 says, "Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?" As the priests took care of the Temple in the Old Testament and made sure it was pleasing to the Lord, so I want to take care of my body by being physically fit.

As always, I hope my story is encouraging to you. Let me know about your fitness journey in the comments!

  1. I went to the gym today. It’s 3 weeks in a row that I’ve gone once a week. I didn’t want to be there, but I forced it. It helped having my bestie with me. I know I need to go more a week, but right now am proud that I went today.
